As summer finally winds down, fall is just beginning to settle in. Local fairs, pumpkin patches, corn mazes and the like, are ramping up for a busy season.

What better treat than fried dough to bring back memories of autumn time?

This quick fried dough is made from store-bought pizza dough, which makes enjoying this favorite treat much faster!

Ingredients
1 package of store-bought pizza dough
2 cups vegetable oil
Powdered sugar, cinnamon, jam (optional)

Directions:

Start by choosing a pan for frying. I would suggest using a wider one, like a 10 inch frying pan.

Obviously the wider the pan, the more oil you’ll need to get it deep enough for frying the dough. I chose a 10-inch frying pan so I have more room to turn each of the pieces of dough. But, feel free to use a smaller one if that’s all you have.

Pour enough oil in your pan so that it’s about 3/8 inches deep. This is slightly under a 1/2 inch, so you can eye it out. Don’t worry if you use more.

Let the oil heat to about 375°F on the stove top before you drop the first piece of dough.

TIP: Chances are, you don’t have a deep fry or candy thermometer to test the heat of the oil. Instead, dip the handle of a wooden spoon into the oil. If the oil bubbles around the handle, the oil is ready for frying!

While the oil is heating, divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and stretch to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Place one at a time into the oil and fry each side between 1-2 minutes, or until it becomes a nice golden brown.

Let each piece of fried dough cool on a few sheets of paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Top with your favorite toppings like powdered sugar, cinnamon, melted butter, or your favorite jam!
